In a live stream from Schweizerhof Grand Hotel in Lucerne (the place where Richard Wagner completed his opera Tristan and Isolde in 1859), the musicians of the world-famous chamber orchestra Festival Strings Lucerne, founded in 1956, will perform Mozart's First piano quartet in G minor, KV 478.

Playing for you this evening are:

Daniel Dodds, the artistic director of the orchestra – violin
Dominik Fischer – viola
Alexander Klonke – cello

and the guest pianist Dmitry Demyashkin.

Mozart's First piano quartet is listed among the greatest masterpieces of the genre, despite its having been initially rejected by the audience in 1785. The interaction between instruments was too groundbreaking for the time, the performance technique was too complex, and the musical idea too bold!

The first part is enhanced by the dominant minor, which strengthens itself anew in the reprise and in the powerful coda, whereas the enchanting second part is not darkened by anything at all.

The mood of Mozart's music reflects the current situation in Europe as it did the enthusiasm of seventy-five years ago when The Second World War ended!

At this musical event in the Schweizerhof Hotel, Steinway's musician Dmitry Demyashkin will introduce the new grand piano, Steinway Spirio. We'll be glad to see you as our listeners at the platform classic-at-home.com!
