Staatheater Nürnberg Announces 2023-24 Season

The Staatheater Nürnberg has announced its 2023-24 season. here is a look at the operatic and vocal selections.


The season opens with Paul Hindemith’s “Mathis der Maler” with Roland Böer conducting the new production by Jens-Daniel Herzog.

Premiere Date: Oct. 1, 2023

Jan Croonenbroeck conducts Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor” with Ilaria Lanzino directing.

Premiere Date: Nov. 5, 2023

Marco Štorman directs Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” in time for the holiday season.

Premiere Date: Nov. 25, 2023

Roland Böer conducts Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Vera Nemirova directing.

Premiere Date: Jan. 20, 2024

Rossini’s “Der Märchenprinz”  will be conducted by Chiara Casarotto and Andreas Paetzold. The production is by Annika Nitsch.

Premiere Date: Jan. 21, 2024

Jürgen Grimm conducts “Jesus Christ Superstar” in a production by Andreas Gergen.

Premiere Date: March 3, 2024

Wagner’s “Parsifal” will be presented in a production by David Hermann and conducted by Roland Böer.

Premiere Date: March 31, 2024

Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” will be conducted by Björn Huestege and directed by Jens-Daniel Herzog.

Premiere Date: June 8, 2024


Wolfgang Katschner conducts Cavalli’s “La Calisto.”

Premiere Date: Oct. 8, 2023

Valentin Uryupin conducts Verdi’s “Nabucco.”

Premiere Date: Dec. 3, 2023

Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” will be conducted by Jan Croonenbroeck.

Roland Böer conducts Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”

Premiere Date: May 12, 2024


Roland Böer conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Emily Newton and Corinna Scheurle.

Performance Date: April 26, 2024
