Jonas Schoen & Friends

Jonas Schoen was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1969 and lives in Berlin.

He is professor for composition and saxophone and ensemble at the Hannover Conservatory. He also teaches theory, orchestration and ear training at „Hochschule der Populären Musik“ in Berlin.

With his own music he is a frequent guest director and soloist with hr and NDR bigbands.

His Jonas Schoen Quartett is well known for concerts of most sensitive interaction. They have released the CD‘s Neindo“, „My Middle Name“, „Five and Fortunes“ as well as „Travesía“, in which Sandra Hempel (guitar) and Friedrich Paravicini (cello) are also involved. Schoen himself also plays Bandoneón on „Travesía“. Their latest album „agnostic chant book“ was recorded with electric bass legend Steve Swallow.

To be able to release his music independently he founded his label Schoener Hören Music in 1999, having released 30 CD’s since.
He works in Robert Wilson directed plays „Leonce und Lena” and „Threepenny opera” at Berliner Ensemble. Guest performances and tours brought him to Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Athens, Tel Aviv, Bergen (Norway), Estland, Poland, New York, Perth/Australia, Sao Paulo/Brasil, Hong Kong, China, Pakistan ……

He is musical director of the Soulkitchen Cookin‘ Crew, lead alto player in Marc Secaras Berlin Jazz Orchestra (cond. Jiggs Whigham), plays with Marc Muellbauer’s „Kaleidospcope“ and frequently with Thärichens Tentett.

Besides alto- and sopranosaxes he plays bass clarinet and bandoneón and flute.
