Since 2004, the Lyon international chamber music competition welcome young artists from over the world. 6 disciplines are addressed in turn: Trio with piano, violin and piano duo, voice and piano duo, cello and piano duo, String quartet, Wind quintet.

Member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, the CIMCL offers excellent participation conditions which associate the great institutions in Lyon: rounds taking place at the Opéra de Lyon, Conservatoires, Université Lumière and assure a financial endowment for more than 25K €, enhanced by residencies and concerts, as well as a good media coverage (France musique, NoMadMusic, Classic@Home).

The quality of the jury members (Felicity Lott, Menahem Pressler, Claire Désert, Natalia Gutman, Roger Vignoles, Lluis Claret, Pamela Franck, Marc Lubotsky, Valentin Erben, Jean-Marc Philips, etc.) contributes to the competition quality.

The competition programs always propose to the candidates to approach the great repertoire and even more intently the french composers. Commissioned works are imposed every year.

Among the most reputed prize-winners : Trio Messiaen, Diana Tishchenko (violin) and Joachim Carr (piano), Trio Van Baerle, Yumiko Tanimura (soprano) and Jonas Vitaud (piano), Duo Contraste (Cyrille Dubois (ténor) - Tristan Raës (piano)), Duo Urba (Marius Urba (cello) Vita Kahn (piano)), Trio Helios, Ensemble Ouranos, etc.

Thanks to an exceptional partnership with Yamaha, who will open their recording studios and  provision the competition with their pianos around the world, the 16th Lyon international chamber music competition (France) will be broadcast here on Classic@Home.

STREAMING DATES :
    • February 24th - 25th - 26th : 2 PM to 7 PM : Streaming of the 1st round
    • March 25th - 26th :  2 PM to 7 PM : Streaming of the semi-final
    • April 24th : 3 PM to 6:30 PM : Streaming of the final

If the sanitary conditions allow it, the final will be held in public, on Saturday, 24th of April from 3pm to 7 pm, at the Salle Molière of Lyon, and will be broadcast live on Classic@Home. The final will be the opportunity to associate the Quatuor Zaïde for the interpretation of Ernest Chausson Grand Concert, with the finalists. If gathering the artists and the public in Lyon cannot be done, the candidates would have to record their final recital in duo, in the Yamaha studios.
Finally, the Prize-winners concert, presented by the France musical journalist Judith Chaine, will be held at the Opéra de Lyon, on Sunday 25th of April at 4pm. This event will not be broadcast online.

A huge thank-you to the trustworthiness of the Lyon competition partners, and even more specifically to Caisse des Dépôts for an exceptional support to the deployed video divice.
