Vladimir Baykov

Vladimir Baykov

was born in Moscow. He received his vocal training at the Prokofiev Opera Studio and at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He is a prizewinner of the Maria Callas Competition in Athens, the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. He debuted in the 2012/13 season at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. He has appeared as a guest at the Finnish National Opera, at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, at the New Israeli Opera, with the English National Opera in London, at the Tirol Festspiele Erl, at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, at the Vlaamse Opera, with Oper Bonn, at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, and at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. He appeared as the title role in the world premiere of Anton Lubchenko’s Doctor Zhivago at the Stadttheater Regensburg und in Vladivostok. He joined the ensemble of the Hamburg State Theater with the 2015/16 season, appearing there as Prince Igor, Gessler (Guillaume Tell), Tomsky (Pique Dame), Narbal (Les Troyens), Kaspar (Der Freischütz), Klingsor, and Wotan. He debuted as the Flying Dutchman at the Theater Magdeburg. In the 2017/18 season, he appeared in Leipzig as the Water Goblin in Rusalka. 2020/21 here as Wotan in Die Walküre.
